Character Counter

Count characters with and without spaces.

Use the tool

Enter your values below. Results are calculated in your browser.

About this Character Counter

The Character Counter is useful when a platform, form or field has a strict character limit. It shows both the exact number of typed characters and a second total with whitespace removed, so you can distinguish content length from spacing.

Formula or method

The full character count includes letters, numbers, punctuation and whitespace; the no-space count removes whitespace.

Example

A 100-character line may have a smaller no-space total if it contains spaces or line breaks.

Common uses

  • Check titles, descriptions and form fields against character limits.
  • Measure short social captions or ad copy.
  • Compare text length with and without whitespace.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the values or text requested by the calculator.
  2. Choose units or options when the tool provides them.
  3. Select the calculation button and review the result.
  4. Use the formula, example and notes on this page to check whether the result fits your situation.

Important note

Line breaks and tabs are treated as whitespace for the without-spaces count.

Frequently asked questions

Are spaces included?

Yes, the main total includes spaces. A separate result shows the count without whitespace.

Do line breaks count?
